A Bit Smaller

Can you tell the "bride" bird on the right is a bit smaller than the "groom" bird on the left?
That was the great idea of a recent customer, and the result turned out really cute!
I also love how bright and colorful the topper is!

(You can find polymer clay cake toppers, ornaments, etc...in my Etsy shop.)

buy this new book by Christi Friesen! It is called "Birds of a Feather", and it looks awesome. Birds are so much fun to make with clay!

Tweety Long Legs

I have been trying to come up with a way to make my birds with poseable legs. I think that they would look so cute in a group, all with legs of various lengths. Here is the first "tweety long legs" that I made. I am still trying to come up with a sturdier version...
Look at those big feet!

April 2009: polymer clay artwork

Here is my polymer clay art piece for April (ooops! I never did one for March...I hope to make it up soon!). Also, I have decided that they don't have to be 5x7 inch.
"Desert Bird", April 2009

My previous two pieces (January and February) had a "cactus flower" theme. I have decided to broaden that theme to include anything "desert".

My Polymer Clay Covered Egg...

Here is my finished polymer clay covered egg.

First, I hollowed out the egg. I covered it with a thin coat of liquid sculpey and baked. Next, I covered the egg with a smooth layer of brown polymer clay and baked again. I added lots and lots of brown polymer clay flowers...then baked again. Last, but certainly not least, I added one of my tweet little birds to the top!

P.S...I did try to scent the brown clay by adding cocoa powder...it did not work. The clay was fine, but after adding a good amount, it still smelled more like clay than chocolate.
