Garden 2012

We finally got some stuff planted in our garden!

We're kind of off to a late start but with this crazy weather, it's probably a good thing!
We had a couple of lonely strawberry plants already in there and added some tomatoes, kale, caesar lettuce, basil, and cilantro.  The kale, caesar lettuce, basil, and cilantro we planted by seed, so we'll have to see how they do.  We had great luck with the kale and lettuce last year.  I want to add some more things, but not quite sure what yet....

I'll be back with an update soon!

Garden Update: A Cucumber!

My garden is still thriving, even with the lack of watering;)
I need to figure out how to tame my pumpkin, squash, and cucumber plants... they have taken over! I have to dig through vines to find my strawberry, lettuce, and tomato plants. I do see tiny tomatoes starting to grow!!! I don't think we will get very many this year, but I'm excited for them. We have lucked out with lots of kale and little caesar lettuce, and we got our first cucumber yesterday! It was so tasty, but we had to split the little guy four ways! I hope we get lots more before the weather starts to cool.
Hoping for lots of tomatoes and cucumbers to report in my next garden update!

Garden Update: Attack of the Weeds!

We visited family for a couple of weeks, and this is what we came back to!:
A garden full of weeds...
(At least everything wasn't dead!)
After some hard work, everything is back under control.
I even found some hidden sprouts under the out of control squash and pumpkin plants. It looks like some of the tomato seeds I planted did grow...and some peppers! We should have some cucumbers soon too. Unfortunately my painted rock plant markers were not the best idea. Rocks have moved around, and the paint has faded and chipped off on some. So...we will be surprised by most of what we get!
Here are our strawberries. The only thing we didn't grow from seed:
Harvested kale and strawberries:

Garden Update: Fresh Spinach

Look at all of the fresh spinach from our garden! We just use it as lettuce...in salads, sandwiches, etc... My 4 year old, Sienna, eats this stuff like candy! Just goes to show you, food is much more fun to eat when you have grown it!
Hope all your summer veggie gardens are doing well!

Garden Update

I wrote a few weeks ago
about the seeds we planted in our garden.
We have been having some crazy weather since then... and I was a little worried nothing would survive. So, I was surprised and happy to see some little green things starting to sprout today!
Yeah!

Seeds of Change

We sent away for some free seeds from Seeds of Change. The kids were so excited when the package arrived! What's more fun than a garden filled with lots of yummy vegetables to eat? There couldn't be a better way to get kids excited about eating veggies either! Even Charles, my pickiest eater, said he couldn't wait to eat everything that we planted!

See...
Even Hunter is excited;)

We painted rocks to use as plant markers.

Charles' bean plant he brought home from school.

Hopefully, everything will grow!
