A new toy...

My husband said I acted like I got a new toy when these arrived in the mail for me yesterday:

I was so excited to paint them!

I let my kids each design one.

My 6 year old daughter wanted hers to have a pink dress with flowers and blond hair.

My son wanted a mad scientist.

My 2 year old daughter wanted a dress and pigtails...and a puppy.

I got to design the two largest dolls. I painted them to resemble my husband and I!

Seed Beaded Christmas Light Bulb Earring Pattern

Hi!
Here is a pattern for some really quick and easy brick stitch

Christmas light bulb earrings~

technique: brick stitch (two drop and single)

supplies:
11/0 seed beads (could also use Toho Treasures or Delicas)
in 3 different colorsbeading needle

thread

These earrings are done using a combination of two drop and single brick stitch. You will be starting in the center of the earring. Start by stringing 4 beads. You will do a ladder stitch, creating 9 rows of two beads in each row. Next you will work your way up...following the pattern. Once you get to the last row with two beads, then you string 6 beads to create the loop for the ear wire. You will want to go through the loop a couple times to reinforce it. Now you work your way down the earring and flip to do the bottom half. Follow the pattern by doing 3 rows of 2 drop brick stitch, then finish the rest with a single bead brick stitch until you get to the last row with two beads. To finish, tie off and weave loose threads through and cut. This earring pattern can be done in any color combination. I could also see it as a strawberry! Just add some random black seeds throughout and change the "stem" to green:)

a fun custom order...

Here is a fun custom order that I just finished. They are characters from a certain new kid's movie.

Want to go fishing?

My kids did! So, we made this really quick and easy fishing game. We used felt, magnets, un-sharpened pencils and ribbon.

We cut out a paper fish template.

Then, we pinned it to the felt and cut

(felt is folded over...so that we would cut two felt fishies at a time).

We sandwiched a small magnet between the two pieces of felt. I used hot glue to seal the magnet in.
For the rod, we tied and glued a ribbon to a pencil on one end and a magnet on the other.
It worked! They caught lots of fish:)

I also did a simple slip stitch around the edges and embroidered a simple face on the fish.

Look! They stick to the fridge too:)

Make sure to watch your young kids with the small magnets. Also, I am sure that this could be done in a variety of different ways. Maybe use velcro, instead of magnets, at the end of the rods to catch the fish? Paper towel roll tubes could be another option for the rods...yarn could be used instead of ribbon,etc...etc...

My kids had a lot of fun with this!

My 2 year old daughter is obsessed with puppies. She has a stuffed one that is her best friend. It's name is "puppy". This was the birthday cake that I made her for her 2nd birthday. It is modelled after "puppy":

...so she had so much fun watching the puppies on the puppy cam. Hope you do too!

Hand Painted Tights

After reading a great post by Erin about making your own printed fabric on her blog, I decided to try it on my daughter's tights. I have been wanting to do some hand painted tights for a while...
So, since this is our first try, we used a pair of her old, grass stained tights.

Here is what we did:

I mixed an acrylic paint with a textile medium.

We found an old daisy stamp that we had, and stuffed rolled up newspaper in the legs.

We dipped the stamp in the paint, stamped on a paper towel to wipe off excess paint....

and went to stamping! Making sure to cover all of the stains!

Here they are after being washed, which softened the look of the stamped flowers. They turned out really cute, and made an old pair of tights new again! I can see many, many variations on these! And think of all the cute stamps that are out there! Holiday themed tights...strawberries...snowflakes...polka dots...the possibilities are endless!

Seed Beaded Christmas Tree Earring Pattern

Hi!

Here is a pattern for some really cute and easy brick stitch Christmas tree earrings~

technique: brick stitch

supplies:

11/0 seed beads

(3 different colors)

(6) 4mm Czech fire polished faceted glass beads

(1) 6mm Czech fire polished faceted glass bead

This earring is done in a 3 drop brick stitch with 4mm sized Czech fire polished glass beads added in. I start at the bottom row of the tree and work my way up to the top. After finishing the 7th row ( the 3 rows of 3 drop), next add a 6mm sized Czech fire polished glass bead by going up through the middle 3 drop row, row 2, and up through the 6mm bead. Then add 6 seed bead and go back down through the 6mm bead to form a loop. The loop will be used to hang the tree on your earring hook. Lastly, I go down though the tree to add the trunk. Do one row, 4 wide, of three drop brick stitch, then finish with a sing row of brick stitch. Tie off...and finish as you usually do...threading the thread through to hide it, etc. This project will work up nicely with many different color variations. I am planning on doing an all white, flocked version too!
