Happy Nevada Day!

All three of my kids dressed up in costumes yesterday. Ramona and Charles had to dress up for the Nevada Day celebration at their school, and Sienna dressed up in her Halloween costume for preschool and playgroup.

Ramona dressed up as a cowgirl from the wild west . She just wore some of Charles' cowboy dress up clothes.

Charles was a Mountain Bluebird (Nevada's state bird). I cut wings out of felt and stitched them onto the shoulders of a sweat shirt. He also had a felt tail.

Here is Sienna, the Oompa Loompa! This costume was so easy, and got such a reaction! All you really need is a brown shirt, white pants, orange face paint and green hair! I made the suspenders out of felt. Also, I painted some white stripes on brown tights to go under her pants (because it is so cold here). Oh, and we put her hair in 3 ponies...and made the top one a bun. She looked so cute!

Just in case you all didn't know, today is Nevada Day. It is a big occasion here! The kids even get the day off of school. I think it's pretty cool! I grew up in California...and never remember a "California Day".
If you would like to learn more about Nevada, here is the State of Nevada's Official website.

Another skeleton

This one is my son's Halloween costume. I just painted bones with fabric paint onto a black sweat shirt and sweat pants. I also painted over the white with glow-in-the-dark paint...so it glows!

More cute than scary...

Sock Skeletons!

I saw these on The Crafty Crow yesterday...and had to make them! Here is a link to the tutorial on marthastewart.com. It's really easy to follow. The only change that I made was that I embroidered on the eyes, instead of using buttons. I like the button eyes, but thought that embroidered eyes would be safer for my kids...and just make them better to snuggle with:)

Custom order and my first attemp at soldering!

Here is a custom polymer clay light switch plate that I made. It is going in a really cute nursery:

I finally got up the nerve to try making a soldered glass pendant. I've had a kit that I bought off of Etsy for like...2 years now! I still need a lot of practice, but I can say that the soldering iron and solder do not intimidate me anymore. It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. I'm most proud that I was able to solder on the bail. The picture is of my grandparents, and on the back it says love.

Here is a great online video that I found: Soldered Collage Charm/Pendant using Glass Slides. I also have this book: Simple Soldered Jewelry & Accessories: A Crafter's Guide to Fashioning Necklaces, Earrings, Bracelets & More.

Okay, now to get to work on the buttons and ornaments...that I should have been working on!

Where the Wild Things Are

I can't wait to take my kids to see the new movie! It will be Sienna's (age 3) first movie at the movie theater. It is one of our favorite books!

Have you seen the previews?

Small magazine's blog had this post about do-it-yourself Where the Wild Things Are costumes today. I was thinking about making Sienna a Max costume for a while, but now she wants to be an Oompa Loompa. I was just going to take a white fleece hoodie and sweat pants, sew on ears and a tale...make a crown...done:) Now I need to figure out how to do an Oompa Loompa!

Above is a Max polymer clay bead that I made a couple of years ago.

With the movie coming out...I want to make more!

P.s. If you want to see more Where the Wild Things Are stuff, you should check out the fan page on Facebook.
